Mustangs Split on Final Day of Weekend Roadtrip

OMAHA, NEB | The Mustangs split their final day of double-headers on Saturday after being defeated by the Bruins of Bellevue with a score of 3-1 and then taking down the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State with a match score of 3-1.  

MATCH 1

The Mustangs opened their Saturday falling to the Bruins of Bellevue (NE) 3-1 despite a hard-fought battle in set three. The Bruins took an early 2-0 lead over the Mustangs after winning sets one (25-18) and two (25-18). The Mustangs would not go down without a fight as they battled point-for-point in the fourth set and came out on top with a set score of 29-27. Despite the well-fought battle, the Bruins would take the fourth set 25-20 to win the match 3-1.

Mary Kate Bendlage came out on top for the Mustangs, leading the team with 19 kills and a .190 hitting percentage. Jenna Brown and Sam Schrage added double-digit kills with 12 and 10 a piece. Hailey Hested had a great match as she recorded 48 assists, placing her within the top 6 of all-time assists in a four-set match. 

Rowyn Scheer led the Bruins offensively with 14 kills and a .423 hitting percentage. Kenzie Polk, Haley Fleischman, and Kealy Kiviniemi were behind her with 12 kills each to help win the match for the Bruins.  

MATCH 2

The Mustangs ended their Saturday with a win as they defeated the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State with a match score of 3-1. The Mustangs took an early match lead as they defeated the Aggies 25-11 in the first set. The Aggies would respond in the second set as they took the set 25-20, tying the match up 1-1. The Mustangs did not let that set get them down as they went on to win the third set 25-17 and the fourth set 25-15, to win the match 3-1. 

Mary Kate Bendlage had a spectacular match as she recorded 18 kills on top of a .208 hitting percentage, while also adding 16 digs. Jenna Brown was not far behind Bendlage as she had 15 kills with a .278 hitting percentage. Hailey Hested recorded 46 assists in the match. 

Brenna Moore was the Aggies leading hitter as she recorded 8 kills to go with a .174 hitting percentage in the match. Her teammate, Ava Newby followed her with 7 kills and a hitting percentage of .108. 

The Mustangs will be back on the court on Sept. 10th for their home opener match against the Vikings of Grand View, with first serve at 7:00 PM CDT.
