Mustang Volleyball Sweeps Hannibal LaGrange

HANNIBAL, Mo. - The Mount Mercy volleyball team concluded their season opening road trip with a three-set sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange, 25-12, 25-19, and 25-21.

The Mustangs had a hitting percentage of over .350 as 10 different Mustangs recorded a kill, while Ellie Gerdes, Hallie Bedier, and Jenna Brown each tallied eight kills. Gerdes and Brown were each impressive on the attacking end, as Gerdes ended with a .500 hitting percentage while Brown ended with a .467.

The best attacking set for the Mustangs came in the opening frame, totalling a .433 hitting percentage while registering 14 kills compared to just one attacking error. Mary Kate Bendlage started a four point run for the Mustangs with a pair of kills coming off assists from Hailey Hested, giving the Mustangs the early edge in the opening frame. From then on, the first set saw the Mustangs lead the rest of the way.

The third set saw 13 kills from the Mustangs coupled with a .348 hitting percentage. Bendlage would add another kill in the set, while Bedier capped off an impressive match from the Mustangs with the victory clinching kill.

The Mustangs will next compete in Joliet, Illinois at the St. Francis tournament next weekend.
