Mustangs Split With Baker on the Road

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - The Mount Mercy women's soccer team returned to the pitch on Saturday, earning a point in conference play with a draw with the host team, the Baker Wildcats, as the game ended 1-1.

Brielle Bastian didn't waste much time in putting the ball in the back of the net, taking a pass from Hannah Dodds to give the Mustangs an early lead just eight minutes in. The Mustangs would hold a 7-4 edge in shots in the first half, while Manuela Gutierrez tallied three saves in the opening 45 minutes.

Just two minutes into the second half, Emeil Bennett took a pass from Emma Schieber and put it past Gutierrez to square the game at one, which would eventually hold to be the final. Gutierrez would add on three more saves in the second frame, while the Baker keeper would have a great game in net, recording nine saves. The Mustangs would hold the advantage in shots at 15-10 after recording eight more in the second half.

The Mustangs will return to the pitch next week to take on MidAmerica Nazarene in Olathe on Saturday.
