Mustangs Pick Up First Win in Hannah Clark Era

LAMONI, Iowa - The Mount Mercy women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season, and it was the first win for head coach Hannah Clark, as the Mustangs took down the Graceland Yellowjackets by a score of 4-2.

In a high scoring first half, both teams combined for five goals, as the Mustangs held a 3-2 advantage through the first 45 minutes. In the 13th minute, the Mustangs were able to take their first lead of the game as Esther Attwood scored. The lead wouldn't last long as Emily Carmen scored just 33 seconds later for the Yellowjackets. In the 24th minute, Lauren O'Toole gave the lead back to MMU, putting the ball past the GU keeper. Attwood would net her second of the game just 11 minutes later, while GU got a goal back with five and a half minutes left before halftime.

In the 77th minute, Hannah Dodds was able to stretch the lead back to two for the Mustangs, which would hold to be the final. Despite the loss for Graceland, the Yellowjackets held a 13-6 edge in shots, while Manuela Gutierrez held the advantage in saves at 7-2.

The Mustangs will be back in action on the road this weekend, taking on Central Methodist in Fayette on Saturday.
