Benedictine Takes Down Mustangs

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy women's soccer team fell on Saturday in a defensive battle against Benedictine, as the Ravens earned a 1-0 win.

Both teams combined for 12 shots in the first half, with four of them being on target as the first 45 minutes went scoreless. In the 49th minute, the ball was bouncing around the box, and a failed attempt at a clear ended with the Mustangs putting the ball in their own net as the Ravens took a 1-0 lead, which was the lone goal of the game.

Manuela Gutierrez was remarkable in goal, recording eight saves in the contest, including a couple spectacular efforts to prevent the Ravens from scoring. Gutierrez bested her opponent as the Benedictine keeper made just one save, but the Ravens held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Mustangs will next compete against William Penn next Saturday at home.
