CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy women's soccer program fell in the final non-conference match, as Governors State used a pair of late goals to win, 3-1.
Grace McLaughlin got the scoring started for the Jaguars, scoring with just over a minute to play in the first half, giving the Jaguars a one-goal lead heading into the break. Brielle Bastian squared the game up at one, taking a free kick from Marissa Taylor and scoring on the header.
The Jaguars would then strike for two more goals within a minute and seven seconds. The first of those goals came on a free kick which bounced off the head of a Mustang defender and into the net for the own goal. Just over a minute later, Morgan Bean scored on a penalty kick to sink the Mustangs.
The Mustangs will be on the road to begin Heart of America conference play, travelling to Marshall, Mo. to take on Missouri Valley on Saturday.
