Late Grinnell Goal Pushes Pioneers Past Mustangs

GRINNELL, Iowa - A late Pioneer goal was enough to push Grinnell past Mount Mercy, as Grinnell took the game, 2-1.

The game was balanced throughout, with both teams nearly equal in several statistical categories. Grinnell had the edge in total shots at 15-12, where the Mustangs had the advantage in shots on goal at 9-8 as well as corners at 5-3.

The Mustangs got a lead after the halftime break, as Brielle Bastian took a pass from Esther Attwood and Hazel Koenighain, netting her first of the year to give MMU a 1-0 lead. Grinnell tied it up just seven minutes later, as Maddie Beltramo scored on a penalty kick, squaring it up at one. In the 81st minute, Maya Mozena scored her second of the season off an assist from Ramona Delborne, giving Grinnell the game winner.

The Mustangs will return to Hadzic Field on Sunday, taking on Governors State in the final non-conference matchup of the season before Heart conference play begins next week.
