Mustangs Drop Season Opener to Saint Francis

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy women's soccer team returned home to Hadzic Field for the 2024 home opener, falling to St. Francis by a score of 4-0.

Mia Perri opened the scoring for USF, scoring the first goal of the contest in the 25th minute. Andrea Aguirre would follow that up 12 minutes later, putting it past the Mustang keeper as the first half would come to a close with USF holding a two-goal advantage.

Ariadne Gonzalez took a pass from Kelly Flores in the 59th minute and scored which made it 3-0, while Andrea Villa took a pass from Mia Perri and made it 4-0, which the game's final score.

Despite the loss, Mustang keeper Manuela Gutierrez totaled five saves on nine shots, with most saves coming in the first half.

The Mustangs will be back in action on Saturday, hosting Trinity Christian with a kickoff time of 1 p.m.
