CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy women's soccer squad doubled their season scoring total in just one game this weekend, blitzing Graceland, 6-2, for their first Heart of America Athletic Conference win at Hadzic Field.
The Mustangs hadn't scored a goal in five conference games entering Saturday, but quickly took care of that against the Yellowjackets. Leticia Belloni had a first-half hat trick with goals in the fourth, 19th, and 43rd minutes. Brielle Bastian had a pair of scores early in the second half (47' 62') before Philine Giese capped the scoring in the 89th minute.
Total shots favored Mount Mercy, 10-8, and so did shots on goal (7-5). Grace Byers stopped three shots in 73 minutes before Emily Metaschk finished things up for the Mustangs (3-6-2, 1-5-0 Heart), who go to William Penn (3-7-1, 0-5-1 Heart) on Wednesday for a 5:00 pm kickoff at Drost Field in Oskaloosa.
