CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy women's lacrosse program fought hard, but ultimately fell to Ottawa at home, 27-5.
The Mustangs would only trail by six at the end of the first 15 minutes of play, as Mollie Lyon and Brooke Caffrey would score on free position shots, as Ottawa would take an 8-2 lead into the second quarter. Caffrey would then add a second goal in the closing seconds of the half, scoring with just 49 seconds left, as the Braves took a 16-3 lead into the half.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Claire Ellsworth would add a pair of goals off of free position shots to eat into the deficit, but it was too much to overcome. In her first game in goal, Princess Tacla recorded eight saves to lead the defensive effort.
The Mustangs will next compete in Atchison, Kansas against nationally ranked Benedictine on Saturday.
