Mustangs Place Fourth to Open Heart Preview

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Mustang women's golf team placed fourth to open the Heart Conference Preview, firing a team round 357 on Monday.

Park holds a six shot lead over William Penn, while Baker leads the Mustangs by six as the Mustangs look to improve their standings on the second day of the tournament. Trailing behind MMU are MidAmerica Nazarene and Grand View, while Missouri Valley rounded out the top seven schools competing.

All four countable scores for MMU place in the top 20, led by Lauren McPhillips-Newcomb shooting an opening round 87. The freshman would card five pars and a birdie on her front nine while adding a pair of pars on the back. Carli Irvine was two shots back, placing 13th, as she recorded five pars on the front nine.

Sophia Honeyman rounded out scores in the top 15, shooting an 18-over in Monday's opening round. Honeyman fired off four pars, with two on each side of the course. Kyla Johnson rounded out the countable scores at 19-over, with three pars on the front followed by four on the back.

The Mustangs will seek to improve their standings on Tuesday in the final round of the Heart Conference Preview.
