Mustangs End Virginia McCoy Fall Invitational in Fifth
PARKVILLE, Mo. - The Mount Mercy women's golf team ended the Virginia McCoy Fall Invitational in fifth, as host Park went on to win the tournament by six shots.
The Pirates of Park had a two round stroke count of 635, shooting a 316 in the opening round followed by a 319 in the final round. They were followed six shots behind by fellow Heart conference foe Baker, who totaled a two round team score of 641, after improving their first round score by three shots, shooting a 319 in the second round. After the top two, the tournament saw NCAA DII Truman State finish in third, with a team score of 655, and the Drovers of Science and Arts out of Oklahoma fire a stroke total of 661. The Mustangs would end in fifth, falling two spots on the leaderboard, shooting a team stroke total of 663, while improving their first round score by three shots.
For the Mustangs, Sophia Honeyman led the squad in round two, firing off a nine-over 79, after carding a pair of birdies in her second round. Honeyman improved her first round score by four in the final round. Gracie Murray would also fire a nine-over 79 in the final round, as she had improved her first round by eight shots. Carli Irvine fired rounds of 81 and 83 to end in 14th, while Grace Haas rounded out the countable scorecards by firing off rounds of 82 and 89.
The Mustangs will next return to the course for the Heart Conference Preview in Overland Park, Kansas at Lionsgate GC in two weeks.
