Mustangs Finish Fourth at Kohawk Classic
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy women's golf team ended their opening weekend by placing fourth at the Kohawk Classic, shooting a team score of 56-over in a field of NCAA competitors.
Kirsten Miller ended her tournament as the top Mustang, finishing fourth overall at eight-over par. Following her even-par round Saturday, Miller would card six pars on her opening nine holes. Following a par on the 10th, Miller would birdie the par-three 16th en route to an eight-over score of 80 in the final round.
Gracie Murray was the second Mustang to place in the top-ten, ending with a final score of 10-over par. Murray would par three of her first five before recording her first birdie of the round on the par-four sixth. Murray would then card two more pars out of her final three holes on the front nine. The second nine was fairly similar, as Murray carded six more pars, including closing out her round with three straight pars.
The third Mustang was Carli Irvine, who cracked the top-25 at No. 24, scoring an 18-over throughout the tournament. Irvine carded three pars on her front nine, while also recording a birdie on the par-five 17th. Lauren McPhillips-Newcomb and Grace Haas rounded out the Mustangs varsity team, as each golfer would card a birdie on the back nine.
The Mustangs will return to the course for the fall home tournament, taking place at Hunters Ridge in Cedar Rapids next weekend.
