Strong Mustang Offense Stings Yellowjackets

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Mount Mercy's women's basketball team demonstrated their offensive skills in a 61-49 victory over the Graceland Yellowjackets at Hennessey Recreation Center on Thursday night.

Right from the tip-off, the Mustangs showcased their offensive strength. They shot 24-for-54 (44.4%) from the field and went 6-for-15 (40.0%) from the free-throw line, while limiting the Yellowjackets to 19-for-64 (29.7%) from the field and 3-for-25 (12.0%) from the line.

Claudia Vanzant led the Mustang offense, recording a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Annika Headington also reached double-double territory, scoring 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field and grabbing 10 rebounds. Off the bench, Sadie Struchen contributed 11 points, shooting 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.

The Yellowjackets were led by Kymani Freeman, who scored a team-high 16 points on 6-for-18 shooting from the field. Nateonia Russell followed with 10 points on 5-for-10 shooting.

The Mustangs will be back on the road to face Baker in a conference matchup on February 8. Tip-off is slated for 12:00 p.m.
