Mustangs seeded fifth, face Ravens in Heart quarterfinals

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy closed out the regular season with a 71-65 home win over Central Methodist on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Hennessey Recreation Center and will turn their sights to the postseason when the Heart of America Women's Basketball Championship presented by WinWon gets underway this week.

Annika Headington totaled 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists against the Eagles (13-15, 10-14 Heart), who will be the eighth seed against top-seeded Clarke in the Heart quarterfinals. Karlie Krogman tallied 10 points and six boards, Madison Dreckman eight points and a team-high nine rebounds. Malie Marfil added nine points, Madison Skelton and Sadie Struchen eight each.

Mount Mercy (17-10, 15-9 Heart) travels back to Atchison, Kan., for a third meeting with fourth-seeded Benedictine (18-10, 16-8 Heart) on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. The Mustangs and Ravens split the regular season meetings, with both teams winning at home. Mount Mercy defeated Benedictine, 82-72, on Jan. 6 at Hennessey Recreation Center, while the Ravens edged the Mustangs, 67-60, on Feb. 17 at Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.

The remaining Wednesday quarterfinal matchups include seventh-seeded Peru State at second-seeded Grand View and sixth-seeded Missouri Valley at third-seeded MidAmerica Nazarene. Semifinals are on March 2 with the championship game on March 5. The higher seed hosts each game throughout the tournament.
