Mustangs throttle Bobcats

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Madison Dreckman and Annika Headington posted double-doubles and all five starters hit double figures as the Mount Mercy women's basketball team defeated Peru State, 97-81, in a high-scoring Heart of America Athletic Conference game on Saturday at Hennessey Recreation Center.

After leading by five at the end of the first quarter, the Mustangs went 14-of-17 (82.4%) from the field during a 35-point second period to lead, 57-21, at intermission. The Bobcats tried to claw back in it but but the huge halftime deficit was too much for them to overcome. Mount Mercy moved to 10-7 overall and 8-6 in the Heart while Peru State fell to 9-9 and 6-8 in conference play.

Dreckman put up 25 points and 11 rebounds while Headington added 20 points and 11 boards. Madison Skelton tallied 15 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Malie Marfil added 14 points and five steals, Anais Bonnemaison 10 points and three assists.

Four Bobcat starters hit double figures as well, led by Hailey Ingram's 25 points. Samantha Stewart finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, and seven steals. Maddy Duncan had 13 points, Kaylan Larry 10.

After finishing off season sweeps of William Penn and Peru State this week, Mount Mercy will face Central Methodist (9-8, 6-7 Heart) for the first time on Monday at 5:30 pm at Puckett Field House in Fayette, Mo.
