Mustangs snap losing skid with Antoine's career night

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Behind Deja Antoine's career-best 18-point afternoon including three 3-pointers, the Mount Mercy women's basketball team snapped their five-game losing streak defeating William Penn 66-41, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference game at Hennessey Rec. Center.

Mount Mercy used a 10-3 spurt to end the first quarter, highlighted by Antoine's eight points. An Annika Headington trey in the second quarter extended the Mustangs lead to double-digits for the first time at 20-10. The Statesmen would get within six, but that was as close as they'd get for the remainder of the game.

Antoine drained her third triple of the game just 13 seconds into the third quarter for the 30-16 lead. Mount Mercy (9-13, 5-11 Heart) kept the momentum, creating their largest lead of 25, 62-37, after a Sammy Mia layup in the fourth quarter. William Penn (8-14, 5-11 Heart) could not slow Mount Mercy down on the offensive end. The Mustangs held the advantage in rebounds (51 to 29), made 3-pointers (11 to 3), and assists (18 to 7) en route to the 25-point win. Mount Mercy also held William Penn to under 10 points in two of the four quarters while increasing their point total every quarter.

Mia joined Antoine in double figures with 12. Dreckman recorded another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and tallied a team-best six assists. Karlie Krogman played key minutes off the bench, grabbing four rebounds, two of which were timely offensive boards.

The Mustangs are back on the road next week for two more Heart contests. On Wednesday, Feb. 1 they look for the season sweep against Graceland (9-13, 4-12 Heart) at 5:30 pm inside the Morden Center in Lamoni.
