CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Mount Mercy women's basketball team fell behind early and never recovered Saturday in a 107-61 loss to fourth-ranked Central Methodist (Mo.). After starting the season with four home wins, it was the Mustangs' first loss at Hennessey Rec. Center.
The Eagles opened the game on a 17-2 run and never trailed. Madison Dreckman led the Mustangs with 15 points and Sassy Coleman also reached double figures with 11 points. Each also had a team-high seven rebounds.
The Mustangs (5-3 overall, 1-2 Heart) shot just 33.8 percent (23-68) overall and 30.4 percent (7-23) from 3-point range. The Eagles (8-0, 4-0 Heart) shot 47.7 percent (42-88) overall. All five Central Methodist starters scored in double figures, led by Zutorya Cook with 26. Twenty-two Mount Mercy turnovers led to 36 points for the Eagles.
The Mustangs host Peru State (Neb.) (4-5, 0-3 Heart) on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Hennessey Rec. Center.
