Mustangs down Wolfpack in season opener

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy women's basketball team shot 47.1% en route to a 94-38 non-conference win over Oak Hills Christian (Minn.)  in their season debut earlier tonight inside Hennessey Rec. Center. 

The Mustangs opened the game on a 12-0 run with Deja Antoine sinking a three-pointer just six seconds in. Madison Dreckman closed out the first quarter with a layup, assisted by Tatum Griffin. Mount Mercy's Sarah Albaugh and Griffin each had four points in the second quarter while the Mustangs held the Wolfpack to just one point; building their lead to 50-7, heading into half. 

Mount Mercy continued to shoot lights out in the second half, draining four from behind the arc in the third quarter. Karlie Krogman grabbed an offensive rebound in the fourth quarter and laid it in for the Mustangs biggest lead of the game, 87-26. Oak Hills Christian (0-1) fought until the end, scoring 31 in the second half, compared to just seven first half points. 

All 15 Mustangs saw the court, led by Dreckman who finished with 16 points and six rebounds. The Mount Mercy bench accounted for 54 points. Griffin added 10, Sadie Struchen nine, and Sam McPherson eight. Christian Patron totaled four blocks and Sammy Mia dished out four assists. 

Mount Mercy continues their non-conference slate Friday, Nov. 4 at 5:30 pm when Waldorf (1-1) comes to town.
