Mustangs Extend Win Streak After Defeating the Fighting Bees
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Mount Mercy's men's volleyball team continued its undefeated start to the season after sweeping St. Ambrose 3-0 Tuesday night at Hennessey Recreation Center. The Mustangs secured the win with set scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-20.
Early in the match, the Mustangs faced a tough St. Ambrose offense. After being tied at 20-20, the Mustangs gained momentum and took the set 25-22. Set two favored the Mustangs as they forced the Fighting Bees into a -.036 hitting percentage, winning 25-18. In the final set, the Mustangs capitalized on six Fighting Bees' service errors, despite committing four service errors themselves, to take the set 25-20 and complete the 3-0 sweep.
The Mustangs had a dominant offensive performance, hitting .262 while limiting the Fighting Bees to a .203 hitting percentage. Gabor Toth led the Mustang offense with 10 kills on 26 attempts, despite recording four attacking errors. Raphael Massara followed with five kills and an impressive .714 hitting percentage, while Brian Lynch also contributed five kills.
Gustavo Bauer guided the Mustang offense, dishing out 22 assists and six digs, while Richard Struska added 12 digs.
St. Ambrose was led by Pedro Zang, who recorded 12 kills on 27 attack attempts with a .296 hitting percentage. Teammate Michael Bos followed with seven kills and a .600 hitting percentage.
The Mustangs will be back in action on January 31 as they travel to take on Saint Xavier, with the first serve set for 7:00 p.m.
