Adams named Track Athlete of the Meet, Mustangs win five titles at Heart of America outdoor championships

OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- Ceondae Adams was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Meet and was one of four Mustangs to win event titles this weekend at the 2022 Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by William Penn.

Adams was a top-three finisher in three events, including the 200 meter dash where he raced to title while hitting the NAIA's "B" qualifying standard in :21.55. He also hit the NAIA qualifying mark while finishing third in the 100 meter dash (:10.62) and placed third in the 110 meter hurdles as well (:15.03).

Deanna Newhouse was a two-time champion for the Mount Mercy women, winning the 5,000 meters in 18:53.41 and the 10,000 meters in 38:44.99. Bre Nail and Abby Hill also claimed Heart of America titles in field events. Nail won the shot put an NAIA "B" qualifying mark of 13.40 meters while Hill cruised to the javelin crown with a throw of 38.02 meters. Men's field standout Mitch Miller placed in the top four in three events, including a runner-up finish in the hammer (53.96m). He also finished third in the shot put (14.55m) and fourth in the discus (45.74m).

Nail, Newhouse, Adams, and Miller have all qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 25-27 at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala. Prior to that, the Mustangs can add to their national qualifier list at the St. Francis Fighting Chance meet on Saturday in Joliet, Ill.
