Mustangs Shut Out on the Road

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Mount Mercy fell 5-0 on the road Saturday afternoon against Missouri Baptist in a Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup, as the Spartans capitalized on early scoring opportunities to hand the Mustangs their fifth loss of the season.

Missouri Baptist struck quickly, netting four goals within the first 19 minutes of play. Forward Keegan Ranney opened the scoring in the fifth minute and doubled the lead just four minutes later. Jake Champion and Matthew O'Reilly followed with goals in the 11th and 18th minutes, respectively, putting the Mustangs in a deep first-half deficit. The Spartans added a fifth goal in the 67th minute from Anthony Coppotelli to seal the result.

Mount Mercy (7-5-2, 4-4-1) created chances throughout the match, recording 20 total shots and 10 on frame, but was repeatedly denied by Missouri Baptist goalkeeper Evan Baisch, who finished with 10 saves in the clean sheet. Pablo Ortega Herrero led the Mustangs with four shots, while Pedro Binnios and Danilo Obradovic each added three attempts.

The Mustangs will host Senior Day on Wednesday against William Penn, as 18 seniors will be recognized.
