Mustangs win conference opener at Clarke

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy men's soccer team opened the Heart of America Athletic Conference slate with a hard-fought, 1-0 road victory over Clarke on Tuesday night. It was Yu Sasaki (JR/Nara, Japan)'s first goal of the season on an assist by Jordan Webb (JR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) in the 48th minute that gave the Mustangs the win.

After dropping their season opener at Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday, the Mustangs (1-1-0, 1-0-0 Heart) bounced back. They held a 17-12 advantage in total shots while putting nine on-goal. The Pride (1-1-0, 0-1-0 Heart) could only muster three shots on goal, all stopped by Mount Mercy goalkeeper Jose Perez Piqueras (SO/Madrid, Spain).

Coming up next for the Mustangs will be another Heart of America matchup with Evangel (1-1-0, 0-0-0 Heart). The Crusaders and Mustangs kick off on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex.
