Mustangs End Fall Season with Third Place Finish

SMITHVILLE, Mo. - The Mount Mercy men's golf team capped off the fall portion of their schedule with a third place finish at the Heart Conference Preview, hosted at Paradise Pointe in Smithville.

Missouri Valley took home the team title, shooting rounds of 294-297, for a total of 591, taking a commanding win over MidAmerica Nazarene, who would finish 16 strokes behind them. The Mustangs would shoot rounds of 309-309 for a total of 618, while Park rose two spots in the standings to take home fourth.

Individually, it was a top five finish for Ziwen Zhong, placing fourth with rounds of 71-79, ending his tournament at six-over. Zhong fired off a one-under round in the first 18 holes, as five birdies, including three on the back nine, helped pace him to red figures.

It was a top 10 finish for Frank Haege, who ended at eight over par, shooting rounds of 77-75, placing him sixth in the field. Haege would card three birdies in his opening round and would tack on another birdie in his final 18 holes. Freddie Walker would round out the Mustangs in the top 15, placing in a tie for 14th at 12-over par. Walker would improve his first round total by eight shots in round two, carding rounds of 82-74, including adding on two birdies in the final 18 holes.

The Mustangs will take the winter off and prepare for the spring schedule.
