
Men's Bowling Secures Second Straight Tournament Crown at Kohawk Invite
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy men's bowling squad secured their second straight tournament win after coming out victorious at the Kohawk Invte in Cedar Rapids.
The Mustangs would finish qualifying on Saturday with the top spot. After dominating the competition once again in baker games, the Mustangs found themselves on top of the final standings by nearly 400 pins.
Individually on the varsity side, Zach Andresen led all bowlers with a total pinfall of 1167, good for an average of 233.4, which was seven pins higher on average than his next closest competitor. Andresen bowled all five games above a 220, with two games coming above a 240, including a tournament high of 258 in his first game. Andresen, as well as Andru Blaney, would find themselves on the all-tournament team as Blaney would finish in fourth overall with a total pinfall of 1118, good for an average of 223.6. Like Andresen, Blaney would bowl all five games above a 200, with a tournament high of 248 coming in his third game.
Aside from the varsity squad, the Mustangs JV bowlers would enjoy success on the lanes, with the JV team winning the tournament. Both Mustang JV teams would secure the top two spots on the JV side. Harley Shene would lead the JV bowlers, finishing just off of the all-tournament team in sixth place. Shene had a total pinfall of 1095, good for an average of 219. Shene would have his best game of the tournament in his fifth and final game of qualifying, bowling a high of 265.
The Mustangs will take the next week off, next competing at the Cedar Valley Invite in Waterloo on February 8.
