Wildcat Offense Overpowers Mustangs; Drop Game with Baker
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Despite a career game from Dimitrije Nikolic, the Baker offense overpowered the Mustangs on Saturday, as the squad fell to Baker, 89-56.
The Mustangs (3-21, 2-18 Heart) were led on offense by Nikolic, who dropped a career best 18 points coming off of the bench, shooting 6-9 from the floor while draining a pair of shots from beyond the arc. Jaxson Fried would finish not far behind Nikolic, ending with 14 points on 6-14 shooting.
Baker (21-3, 18-2 Heart) was led on offense by Ahmed Mahgoub, dropping a team high 17 points on 7-11 from the floor. Other starters for Baker in double figures were Quentin Harvey and Noah Rigatuso, dropping 15 and 13 points respectively.
Baker would lead the game wire-to-wire, never trailing in the matchup. The Wildcats would jump out to a quick five point lead just five minutes into the game, stretching the lead to eight before the Mustangs were finally able to record a basket as Aidan Yamilkoski would get the Mustangs on the board with a layup two and a half minutes into the game. The lead would quickly extend to 11 for Baker as Harvey would drain a three. The Mustangs would be able to get the lead to within single digits, but a three from Rigatuso at the 11:26 mark of the first half was the last time the game would be within 10 points.
Shooting would be the ultimate downfall for the Mustangs, shooting just 33% from the floor, as only five Mustangs would record points in the matchup. Aside from Nikolic and Fried in double figures, Jordan Willis would add in nine points off the bench, while Yamilkoski and Cameron Williams would add in seven and six points, respectively.
The Mustangs will return to the court, hosting Culver-Stockton on Wednesday, with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
