Vikings Overpower Mustangs in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Grand View offense was too much for the Mustangs to handle, as the Vikings took Wednesday's Heart conference game in Des Moines, 87-57.

The Mustangs (2-19, 1-16 Heart) weren't able to get much going on offense, only shooting 33.3% from the floor in the loss. Cameron Williams would finish tied for a game high of all scorers with 21 points on 8-15 shooting, including shooting 5-11 from beyond the arc. Jaxson Fried would be the only other Mustang in double figures, scoring 11 points.

The Vikings (11-10, 9-8 Heart) saw three players in double figures, led by Jackson Green with 21. Jaxson Young and Ayden Foster would each add in 16 points as the Vikings would shoot 53.4% from the floor. The trio of Young, Green, and Foster would combine for a 20-34 clip from the floor, good for 58%. Young would also add in a game high seven assists to help facilitate the Viking offense.

Despite the loss, the Mustangs held their own on the boards, winning the rebound battle with a 31-29 edge. The Vikings, however, would use the difference in points in the paint as a key factor in the win, holding a 40-20 edge in points inside. The Viking bench was also able to outscore the Mustang bench in the game, 21-19.

The Mustangs will return to the Hennessey Rec Center on Saturday, hosting Benedictine as the season winds down into the final month, with tipoff slated for 2 p.m.
