Williams Scores Team-High 16 Points as Mustangs Fall Short Against Park at Home
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Cameron Williams scored a team-high 16 points, all of which came in the opening half, as the Mustangs fell in Heart of America play to Park, 65-61.
The matchup between the Pirates and Mustangs was fairly even throughout Saturday's contest, with each team making 23 shots from the floor. The Mustangs would hold the edge in three pointers made at 7-3 , while also shooting a better percentage from the charity stripe at 72.7% on 8-11 from the line. Despite Park winning the rebounding battle, the Mustangs had the edge in assists at 12-6, while each team would force 11 turnovers.
The Mustangs had three players in double figures as Williams led the squad with 16. Williams would shoot 6-14 from the floor and would make four threes, all of which would come in the first half. Jaxson Fried and Aidan Yamilkoski would join Williams in double figures, each with 14 points. Fried would shoot 5-14 from the field while Yamilkoski would shoot 6-13. Fried would add on a team high seven rebounds and five assists in the loss.
For the Pirates, Jacob Barnett led the squad in the win with a game-high 18 points on an even 50% shooting clip at 6-12. Joining him in double figures was Jaden Robinson (14) and Abubakar Kromah (10). Kromah would record a double-double in the game with 10 rebounds, while Robinson would fall just behind him with eight rebounds. Robinson and Tristan McRoberts would lead the team in assists, each with three.
The Mustangs will return to the court for another home conference matchup next Saturday, facing off against MidAmerica Nazarene, with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
