Mustangs Swept By Grand View in Final Road Games of the Year

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Mount Mercy baseball win streak halted at 11 games as Grand View was able to sweep Sunday's doubleheader in the final road games of the season, losing 4-1 and 11-6.

Game One

The Mustang bats were held in check in Sunday's opener, only mustering a pair of hits in the loss, coming off the bats of Joel Vaske and Tyler Pecson. Vaske recorded the Mustangs lone RBI with a solo home run in the top of the fifth.

Grand View's offense was sparked by a three-run shot in the bottom of the first from Brook Heinen over the left field fence, while Connor Canny drove in a run on an RBI single to left field.

Jason Moist earned the win for Grand View, improving his record to 6-2. Moist threw a complete game, only allowing one run while striking out five. Kyle Lehmann was tabbed with the loss, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing four runs while striking out four.

Game Two

The Mustang bats saw multi-hit games from Jeremy Figueroa, Trent Hoogerwerf, and Vaske, as the Mustangs recorded 11 hits in the contest. Vaske and Jaden Hackbarth would lead the way with two RBIs each in the contest.

The Vikings got the scoring started in the bottom of the first as Heinen doubled to center field, driving in a pair of runs. The Mustangs would answer back with four straight as Vaske hit his second home run of the day, driving in a pair. Drake Frazier followed that up with a single to center field, driving in one, and Tyler Dahm recorded a sacrfice fly as the Mustangs took a 4-2 lead.

The Vikings would respond with three more of their own, taking the lead capped off by a Brock Rinehart two-RBI double. Jaden Hackbarth drove in a pair of runs as his second RBI of the game came off of an RBI double to center field, scoring Ryan Knowlton, as Grand View was able to hold on for the win.

Josh Stoll earned the win, pitching 3.2 innings in relief while only allowing one run and striking out three. Owen Brauch was tabbed with the loss, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing three runs.

The Mustangs will close out the regular season with a four game set at home against Clarke, with play set to begin on Friday.
