Mount Mercy Splits with Culver-Stockton to Close the Weekend

CANTON, Mo. - The Mount Mercy baseball team earned a road split to end the weekend, taking down Culver-Stockton in game one by a score of 8-2 before falling in the nightcap 8-6.

Game One

The Mustangs (13-17) saw a 3-5 performance from Jeremy Figueroa while Riley Rundquist and Kyle Moeder each recorded a pair of hits in the win, with Moeder recording a game high three RBI's, while Rundquist and Drake Frazier each ended with a pair.

The scoring got started in the top of the second on a Moeder single, scoring Jaden Hackbarth. Frazier added to the scoring column with a two RBI triple in the second, as the Mustangs took a 3-0 lead after two. Rundquist drove in both of his runs on a double in the fifth, followed by Moeder homering in the seventh as the Mustangs stretched their lead to eight. CSC tacked on both of their runs in game one on a double, but that wasn't enough to dig into the Mount Mercy lead.

Kyle Lehmann earned the win, pitching all seven innings and allowing just two runs while striking out four. Nicolas Goebert was tabbed with the loss, pitching five innings and allowing five runs while striking out five.

Game Two

The nightcap saw Brandon Bickford, Trent Hoogerwerf, and Rundquist each record a pair of hits in the contest, as Matthew Murphy, Hoogerwerf, and Frazier would each drive in two runs in the loss.

Hoogerwerf opened the scoring with a two run blast in the top of the first, and Frazier added a two-run single in the second as the Mustangs jumped out to a four-run lead. The Wildcats responded with four of their own in the bottom of the second, squaring the game at four after two innings of play. Murphy added a two run single in the top of the fourth, taking the lead back. The Wildcats responded with the dagger in the fourth, capped off by a three run homer which effectively sealed the win.

Cole Parkhill earned the win, allowing six runs and striking out five. Davin Meier earned his second save of the weekend, pitching less than an inning but recording the final out. Nathan Pardini was tabbed with the loss, pitching less than an inning and allowing two earned runs.

The Mustangs will return to the Plaster Athletic Complex on Wednesday with a non-conference matchup with cross-town foe Coe College.
