Four-run fourth inning gets Mustangs back on track
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A four-run fourth inning brought Mount Mercy back from a two-run deficit as the Mustangs defeated Coe, 6-3, on Tuesday at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex.
The Kohawks scored a pair of runs in the top of the third before the Mustangs got one back in the bottom half on an RBI groundout by Tyler Dahm that scored Kyle Moeder. Then in the fourth, a solo home run by Bryce Brown and two-run homer from Joel Vaske put Mount Mercy in front for good.
Tyler Pecson finished 3-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in for the Mustangs while Kyle Lehmann went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Tyler Nagelbach (1-0) threw five-hit ball over four innings, allowing two earned runs with a strikeout. Owen Brauch struck out three in two innings of relief while Brady Schiesl and Nathan Pardinin each threw scoreless inning out of the bullpen. Zach Barden earned the save in the ninth.
Mount Mercy (3-7) hosts a four-game set with St. Ambrose this weekend. First pitch on Friday is slated for 1:00 pm, while Saturday's doubleheader gets underway at 11:00 am at the Plaster Athletic Complex.
