Katie Engel Tabbed Mustangs Head Lacrosse Coach

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Mount Mercy athletics department has announced that Katie Engel has been named the new head coach for the Mustangs women's lacrosse program.

A former collegiate lacrosse player at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, Engel has been the head varsity lacrosse coach at Minooka Community High School since 2022. Engel led MCHS to eight wins this past season, including four wins in conference play. At MCHS, Engel created training plans, led practices, and maintained equipment and a budget. She also earned a strength and conditioning certification this past year.

Engel was a four-year player for the North Central College women's lacrosse program, appearing in 24 games for the Cardinals. Engel was a part of the Cardinals squad that would win 30 games in two seasons while appearing in back-to-back CCIW tournaments.

"I am thrilled beyond words to have the opportunity to lead the women's lacrosse team at Mount Mercy University," Engel added. I can't wait to inspire and empower these talented athletes to reach their full potential on and off the field."

Engel earned her Bachelors degree in History from North Central in 2021 and is currently working on her Masters degree in Sports Leadership from North Central.
