Mustangs set to compete at outdoor championships
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy track & field standouts will compete in 11 events at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University at Wildcat Stadium May 22-24 in Marion, Ind. Live Results | Livestream
In men's competition, Ryan Clancy, Ceondae Adams, Breon Wade, and the 4x400 meter relay team will hit the track this week. Clancy enters nationals ranked 21st in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and kicks things off for the Mustangs on Wednesday at 7:55 pm.
The rest will race on Thursday, beginning with Adams, ranked 20th in the 110 meter hurdles, running at 2:15 pm. Wade, currently 22nd in the 100 meters, races at 3:40 pm. The relay squad comprised of Adams, Nate Keiper, Jordan Schroeder, Keegan Thompson, and Wade are ranked 15th and compete at 8:45 pm.
Mitch Miller and Caleb Rutherford, no strangers to the NAIA national championships, compete this week as well. Miller takes a No. 17 national ranking into the hammer throw on Wednesday at 11:30 am, then competes on Thursday in the discus where he ranks 28th. Rutherford, sitting at 27th in the nation in the shot put, throws on Friday at 3:00 pm.
Abby Knepper and Abby Hill compete in a pair of track events for the Mustang women. Knepper, ranked 24th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, races on Wednesday at 7:25 pm. In the 5,000 meter race walk, Hill takes a No. 21 ranking into competition on Thursday at 4:45 pm.
Bre Nail, Ava Conrad, and Alyssa Striegel compete in the shot put and discus this week. Nail, one of the top throwers in school history and a multiple national qualifier, throws the shot put on Thursday at 2:30 pm. She enters the championship ranked 20th. Conrad is ranked 15th and Striegel 26th in the discus, and they will compete on Friday at 1:00 pm.
