
Mustang Weekly Recap (January 13-19)
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Mustangs went 1-1 on the week, with a win over William Penn, followed by a loss to nationally ranked MidAmerica Nazarene. Against WPU, Ellie Morrill shined in her first start of the season, recording a team high 18 points while pulling down nine rebounds, with eight boards on the defensive end. Annika Headington and Malie Marfil joined Morrill in double figures, with Headington adding 12 points and Marfil with 11. The Mustangs also saw balanced contribution on the bench, with Sadie Struchen, Taylor Rose, and Emily Schumacher each recording three points.
Against MidAmerica Nazarene, Malie Marfil would be the only Mustang in double figures as she led the squad with 17 points on 5-11 shooting. Madison Skelton and Isabel Wallschlaeger would each add nine in the loss to the Pioneers, in what was tabbed as the Heart Conference Network Game of the Week.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Mustangs battled close with William Penn at home, ultimately falling, while dropping a road contest with MidAmerica Nazarene. The William Penn match was the third in five games to feature a final scoreline of 81-74. Rusmir Hamzic made his season debut against the Statesmen, playing 28 minutes and leading all scorers with 29 on 11-18 shooting. He would be joined in double figures by Elijah Ward (13) and Ahmad Ingram (10). Hannes Bergmann would add in six points off the bench in the loss.
Against MidAmerica Nazarene, the Mustangs saw Bergmann erupt for a career high 22 on 9-11 shooting. Caden Schroeder and Miles Dear would each add in nine points, while Kylar Whitman would add a season high 12 off the bench.
MEN'S BOWLING: The Mustangs claimed the BPA Kegel Midwest Collegiate Classic crown after dominating the competition throughout qualifying and baker games. Blake Walsh finished on the all-tournament team, ending in third place overall with a total pin count of 1204. Walsh bowled all five games above 200, with a tournament high of 267. Robert Vater would finish in sixth, nearly recording a perfect 300 in game three with a score of 287.
WOMEN'S BOWLING: The Mustangs won their second straight tournament, this time at the BPA Kegel Midwest Collegiate Classic. Nada Abdul Jalil finished first on the team and in 12th place overall. Abdul Jalil bowled a tournament high 236 in game five en route to a total pin count of 1022. Brooke Salzman was not far behind, ending with a pin count of 1000, having two games over 220. Jaelle Hamman rounded out the top-20, finishing just one pin behind Salzman at 999.
MEN'S TRACK: The men's indoor track and field team opened 2025 at the Bumble Rumble. Nate Keiper would lead the Mustangs in the 200 meter dash, clocking a time of 23.07 to place 12th. Ryan Mitchell would secure a top-10 finish in the 600 meter run, ending with a time of 1:26.08.
WOMEN'S TRACK: The women's indoor track and field team competed in the Bumble Rumble, hosted by Saint Ambrose in Davenport. Bre Nail would end the shot put in third with a score of 13.03m. Ava Conrad was not far behind Nail, with a score of 12.39m to place sixth. Corinne Gadient finished fourth in the 800 meter run, ending with a time of 2:21.18.
