Mustang Weekly Recap (January 6-12)

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Mustangs competed in a pair of games last week, defeating Clarke on the road before falling to Park on the road. Against Clarke, a pair of Mustangs scored in double figures, led by Claudia Vanzant with 22. Vanzant would also pull down 11 rebounds, with nine of them on the defensive end. Annika Headington would join Vanzant in double figures with 14 on an even 50% shooting clip. Sadie Struchen and Malie Marfil would each have eight while Sam Kiel added seven in the Mustangs win.

Against Park, Headington and Madison Skelton would each lead the team with 13 points, as Headington's fourth quarter layup earned her place in the Mustang women's basketball 1,000 career points club. Struchen and Marfil would each add another eight points, while Vanzant registered seven. Vanzant was also a force on the defensive side of the ball, tallying a season high four blocks.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Mustangs fell in a pair of contests on the road, first to Clarke in overtime, then to Park on Saturday. Against Clarke, Kaden Johnson and Julio Feria each had career games, with Johnson leading the team in scoring with 29 while Feria would be right behind him with 26 on 11-16 shooting. The next leading scorers for the Mustangs would be Jackson Tegeler and Dimitrije Nikolic, who each had six.

Against Park, Caden Schroeder would lead the team in scoring with 11, while Johnson would be just behind him with 10. Hannes Bergmann would have his best game of the season, adding eight points and 10 rebounds. Feria would cool off a bit, adding in eight points in just his second start of the season.
