
Mustang Weekly Recap (November 4-10)
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: The Mustangs took down Clarke on Senior Night Tuesday, 3-1. The third set saw the Mustangs score 17 straight points as the squad won the set 25-4. The duo of Mary Kate Bendlage and Jenna Brown would combine for 32 of the Mustangs 50 kills. On Saturday, the team fell to Park in the opening round of the Heart of America tournament, ending their season. Bendlage would be the lone Mustang with double digit kills, recording 15.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Mustangs put up a valiant fight against top-seeded Missouri Valley, ultimately falling 2-1. Orla Humphrey would score in the first half as the Mustangs would hold the lead for a majority of the match before a long ball from the Vikings found its way past the Mustang keeper.
MEN'S SOCCER: The men's soccer team fell on the road in penalty kicks to second-seeded William Penn. The game was back-and-forth as WPU opened up a lead early before the Mustangs were able to strike back to tie it at one. After a late goal from WPU, the Mustangs weren't left with much time, but Diego Carrasco was able to score in the 87th minute. In PK's, WPU keeper Sean Bohan was able to stop 2-4 shots faced while the Statesmen offense put home their PK's to advance in the tournament.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Mustangs were handed a pair of defeats, falling to Briar Cliff in OT, 82-78, on Tuesday before falling to a receiving votes Columbia squad, 87-67, on Saturday. Jaxson Fried recorded a pair of 20 point games, including a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds against Columbia.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Mustangs played in one countable contest, which was a win vs. St. Ambrose, 71-52, while falling to NCAA DII McKendree in an exhibition. Against SAU, three Mustangs scored in double figures, led by Isabel Wallschlaeger with 14 points and nine rebounds. Malie Marfil was not far behind with 13 points on 4-10 shooting, including 5-7 from the free throw line. They were joined in double figures by Claudia Vanzant, who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: The Mustangs captured the Heart of America championship, placing five runners in the top-15. Abby Knepper and Kalin Rotzoll led the team, finishing in second and third place respectively. Kayla Overton rounded out the Mustangs earning First Team All-Conference honors, taking home eighth. Earning All-Conference Honorable Mention was Emma Althoff and Ruth Jennings, taking home 11th and 12th respectively, as the Mustangs earned their spot at the NAIA National Championship meet.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: The Mustangs earned their first Heart of America crown on Saturday, as three Mustangs earned First Team All-Conference honors, as Ryan Mitchell, Brady Cortez, and Ryan Clancy would finish eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively. Lukas Lamparek and Dylan Bledsoe would clinch the Heart of America crown as all five Mustangs would place in the top-25 as the team earned their spot at the NAIA National Championship meet.
WOMEN'S BOWLING: The Mustangs would place second at the Leatherneck Classic, falling to St. Xavier in the finals. Nada Abdul Jalil would lead all bowlers individually with a total pin count of 1092. She would be joined in the top ten by Brooke Salzman and Jaelle Hamman, who would finish fifth and sixth, respectively.
MEN'S BOWLING: The men's bowlers fell in the opening round of bracket play at the Leatherneck Classic after a fourth place finish during qualifying. Keaton Ostrowski would finish in third place in qualifying with a total pin count of 1170, good for a 234 average over five games.
