Mustang Weekly Recap (Oct. 21-27)

MEN'S GOLF: The Mustang men's golfers finished the Heart Conference Preview in second place, trailing only MidAmerica Nazarene. Three Mustangs, Junn Yong, Frederick Walker, and Theo Baker, all finished in a tie for ninth at eight over par. Gannon Hall would round out the scoring totals for the Mustangs at 15-over.

WOMEN'S GOLF: The Mustang women's golfers finished in fourth at the Heart Conference Preview, trailing Park, William Penn, and Baker. Sophia Honeyman and Carli Irvine finished in a tie for eighth at 24-over, while Lauren McPhillips-Newcomb finished in 12th at 27-over. The tournament wrapped up the fall season for both Mount Mercy golf teams.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: The Mustangs had a busy week in women's volleyball, playing host to William Penn, Park, and Benedictine over the course of the last week. On Tuesday, the squad swept William Penn as Mary Kate Bendlage and Jenna Brown both finished with double digit kills. On Friday, the Mustangs fell to Park, 3-1 as Bendlage would be the only Mustang with over 10 kills, finishing with 17. Finally, on Saturday, the Mustangs fell to Benedictine in a sweep as the team hit .141.

MEN'S SOCCER: The Mustangs enjoyed a successful week in their late season playoff push, defeating both Clarke and Park. Against Clarke on Wednesday, the Mustangs took down the Pride in Dubuque, 2-1, behind goals from Martin Fernandez on a penalty kick and Chafik Elidrissi. In a physical contest on Saturday, the Mustangs took down the Pirates at Hadzic Field. On Saturday, the Mustangs took down Park, 2-1, behind goals from Chris Difficile and Pablo Ortega.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: The women's soccer team split their two contests, falling at Clarke, 2-0, before beating Park on Saturday, 1-0. Esther Attwood scored the game winner with eight second left in the first half on Saturday as the Mustangs kept their conference playoff hopes alive.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: The women's cross country team took seventh at the Doane Blazing Tiger NAIA Classic, as Abby Knepper took home 16th to lead the way. The result was good enough for Knepper to be named the Heart XC Runner of the Week.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: The men's team took home 12th at the Doane Blazing Tiger NAIA Classic, as Benedictine was the only conference foe to finish higher than MMU. Brady Cortez and Ryan Clancy each finished within four seconds of each other to lead the Mustangs to a top-20 finish.
