Mustang Weekly Recap

MEN'S GOLF: The Mustang men's golf team placed fifth at the Virginia McCoy Fall Invitational hosted by Park in Kansas City. Junn Yong was six shots off the lead, finishing in a solo third place at two-over after recording a second round score of two-under par. The Mustangs would place three in the top-15 as Ziwen Zhong finished in a tie for eighth at four-over while Dylan Tan, who competed as an individual, would finish in a tie for 12th at five-over.

WOMEN'S GOLF: The Mustangs would place fifth at the Virginia McCoy Fall Invitational, trailing fourth place by just two shots. Sophia Honeyman and Carli Irvine would each place in the top-15, with Honeyman in a tie for 10th and Irvine in a tie for 14th. Grace Haas cracked the top-25 individually, finishing in a tie for 24th.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: The Mustangs went 2-1 on the week, with wins over Culver-Stockton and Missouri Valley, before falling to Central Methodist. In Tuesday's Culver-Stockton match, senior setter Hailey Hested recorded 42 assists, and broke the school's all-time assist record with her 3,582nd assist.

MEN'S SOCCER: Men's soccer played host Baker to a 2-2 draw on Saturday. Pablo Lopez and Pablo Ortega Herreros each scored, while Diego Carrasco and Leonardo Franco added their names to the score sheet with assists. Goalkeeper Zach Biggs recorded four saves in the match, earning the draw in his second start of the season.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Mustangs drew with host Baker, 1-1 on Saturday behind a goal from Brielle Bastian. Bastian took a pass from Hannah Dodds in the eighth minute to give the Mustangs an early lead. Manuela Gutierrez was remarkable in goal, saving six shots to keep the game at a draw. Her six saves are a tie for third most this season from the freshman goalkeeper. The Mustangs currently sit in eighth place in a fight to make the conference postseason as we head into the final four matches of the season.

 

UPCOMING THIS WEEK: 

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: The Mustangs will continue their second half homestand with matches against Peru State and Graceland this weekend, with the Peru State match slated to begin at 7 p.m. Friday while the Graceland match will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday.

MEN'S SOCCER: The Mustangs will take on the defending national champions in MidAmerica Nazarene in Olathe on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. as both teams continue their fight to make the conference postseason.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: MMU will take on MidAmerica Nazarene in Olathe on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Olathe.

BOWLING: The Mustang bowling teams will compete in the Five Seasons Classic, sponsored by Cedar Rapids Tourism, on Saturday and Sunday at May City Bowl in Cedar Rapids. The women are coming off finishing first in qualifying while being a semifinalist at the Midwest Collegiate Championships.
